Sooty and sweepy and hoovery

Today's lyric:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"Please now brother don't you ride this train
Ride the wrong rails, live your life in vain ."

Savoy Brown: "Train to nowhere"
From the album: "The Collection"

Classic

The tortie kitten was nowhere to be found yesterday morning. We found her behind the firescreen (camouflaged against the firewall) coated in soot and peering intently up the chimney.

So we quickly cleaned her up and looked forward to coming home in the evening and cleaning up the mess properly.

When I got in, Mrs.D. said I'd have the pleasant job of removing the corpse of the bird what had caused the damage.

So I changed out of shirt and tie into shorts and t-shirt and rigged up a lamp to see where the bu99er was.

And it turned to look at me.

One dehydrated and sorry-looking pigeon.

The RSPCA lady was an hour away, so suggested "we" try to get it out ourselves?

So to protect my injured thumb*, I donned garden gloves and stuffed my arms up t'chimney.

The pigeon weren't happy about being accosted by the feet and flapped three tons of soot over me and the lounge. B@st@rd.

I placed it carefully on the lawn, where it sat stupidly, black- and pigeon-coloured.

The RSPCA lady said she would come and collect it anyway, if it was too traumatised to make its own escape, so could we box it up ready for her to pick up?

So - still without any tea in me, we carefully lined a box with newspaper and took it to the dumbass bird for ease of transport.

Whereupon it did a vertical take-off and flew into the adjoining woods, trailing a wake of soot.

Looking down, so was I. I had the appearance of that now-banned icon off the jam-jars. You know - blackened face, knees and the gap between the gloves and my t-shirt sleeves looking like a trainee tattooist's first attempt at colouring in.

The RSPCA lady pi55ed herself at the mental image of me.

I hate pigeons. Tea was taken somewhat after 9:00 p.m. After soot and sh1t was hoovered up, washed down, the TV, stereo speakers, mantlepiece and ornaments wiped or polished and the three piece sponged off.

Enjoy your weekends, y'all..

* that's a whole other story and there will not be pictures

Literacy lunacy_1

Today's lyric:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"Well, you tell me that your lover has a broken limb,
You say you're kind of restless now and it's on account of him.
Well, I saw the man in question, it was just the other night,
He was eating up a lady where the lions and Christians fight."

Leonard Cohen: "Diamonds in the mine"

Woke up 'thinking' of this. No idea why..

Louis de Bearnaisesauce: Captain Grapelli's wheelie-bin

The re-cycled and often violint account of a muso's war with the local authority about the size of his refuse bin.

Translated from the original Bubble* and narrated from the infamous Gentleman's Quarter of the Peppermint Hippo club.

Published by Stringyfellow.

Dumbed down

Today's lyric:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"extreme ways that that help me
help me out late at night
extreme places I had gone
but never seen any light
dirty basements, dirty noise
dirty places coming through
extreme worlds alone
did you ever like it planned

I would stand in line for this
there's always room in life for this."

Moby: "Extreme ways"
From the album: "18"

ever a favourite

So I get the iPod back up to speed and then go and leave the moby at home?

It's only an 'emergency' cellphone but means that I can't let Mrs.D. know that my train's in and if she's about, could she pick me up? In my car?

Hey Ho.

It's going to be a stone-crackingly hot weekend (I read it in the paper, so it must be true?) so enjoy your (Bank holiday) weekends, y'all..

Relief

Today's lyric:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"I, recommend biting off more than you can chew to anyone
I certainly do
I, recommend sticking your foot in your mouth at any time
Feel free
Throw it down (the caution blocks you from the wind)
Hold it up (to the rays)
You wait and see when the smoke clears."

Alanis Morissette: "You learn"
From the album: "Jagged Little Pill"

vicious

Some IT-sourced advice has restored services, so fortunately I didn't need to resort to this.

But the iPod has backed up 3,500+ 'blanks' to the external hard-drive, from which I now need to restore normality, so it means scanning through 7,000+ lines to locate and delete the duffers, then copy the live 'uns across.

Still, it keeps me off the streets..

Radio Silence

Today's lyric:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"Something in the moonlight catches my eye, The shadow of a lover goes dancing by
Looking for a little bit o' love to grow, So give me love, give me heart and soul
You never let me cross to the other side now, I'm tied to the hope that you will somehow
Hard on the heels of something more, But I lost your love, heart and soul."

T'Pau: "Heart and Soul"
From the album: "Bridge of Spies"

the odd good oldie

With archetypical electronic timing, the iPod has blown up, just days after the warranty expired (it was last year's birthday present). "Shuffle" caused a manic scrolling of the album covers artwork, the drive frantically searching for no-longer-existent tracks and lyrics.

For a bowel-churning few moments, I thought that the corrupted library had also obliterated the back-up copy on the external hard-drive, as the brand-new works pc failed to recognise the device at all, but - phew - they are there still.

But having wiped the iPod completely by restoring factory settings, it still failed to accept a transfer from library to drive, so it's looking pretty terminal.

Anyone had a similar experience?

Snap

Today's lyric:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"So quiet and peaceful
Tranquil and blissful
There's a kind of magic in the air
What a truly magnificent view
A breathtaking scene
With the dreams of the world
In the palm of your hand."

Queen: "A winter's tale"
From the album: "The Platinum Collection"

All good

and I'm back in the room..

Tadette of confusion with mein host there, who decided to amalgamate Mrs.D's as-yet-unpublished website with mine, and so were billing her for my site?

Anyhoo - all sorted now and back to work/blogging, so thanks for being patient and some wreck-fishing pics to follow.

So many hits, so little time

Today's lyric:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"If I gave you diamonds and pearls
Would you be a happy boy or a girl?
If I could I'd give you the world
But all I can do is just offer you my love."

Prince: "Diamonds and pearls"
From the album: "Diamonds and pearls"

So many hits, so little time..

Birthday spent in the company of royalty (and prime friends). Nothing to top live music in great company.

The Little Prince eventually arrived on stage at nine, finally cutting off the worst dirgeful background music I've ever been forced to listen to for many a year.

But then he belted out all of the favourites, plus some from the new album, the cd of which was given to every ticketholder on arrival.

Pure energy from all on stage

I hadn't appreciated quite how accomplished a pianist he is, but his solo spot on the keyboards proved he's not just an axe-man.

The series of encores included the 11-piece warm-up band (Fantastico??) so there were upwards of 20 people knocking out the finale.

What a showman...

Sing up, mate!

Now - I've got an empty jewel case of "Diamonds and pearls" - if anyone's got the cd from it, please let me know?

3 2 Go

Today's lyric:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"Let's take a look at these crows' feet, just look!
Sitting on the prettiest eyes.
Sixty 25th of Decembers, fifty-nine 4th of Julys
Not through the age or the failure, children
Not through the hate or despise
Take a good look at these crows' feet
Sitting on the prettiest eyes."

The Beautiful South: "Prettiest eyes"
From the album: "Carry on up the charts"
Always the lyrics..

Trying frantically to clear the decks before this summer's furlough (and failing signally)

Hoping to clear other decks if our wreck-fishing trip gets weather-clearance on the 9th?

Oh, and pinch-punch, 'n all that...
