That time, again

Today's lyric:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"Once more it's a crying shame
Only this time no-one but myself to blame
All I touch turns to dust
It's right there in my cards - I ought to cut."

Roxy Music: "Could it happen to me?"
From the album: "Siren"

Well fit, that Jerry

Every couple of years or so - and, coincidentally, around this time of year too - I do something stupid which twists my pelvis and gives me absolute fcuking grief.

Such that it hurts like hell to get up from the sitting position, and vice cersa, but you have to get up frequently to stop the muscle (or whatever it is) from knitting back.

I'm walking like I've cacked meself.

It's a real pi55er, and when it's caused by something banal like reaching for a cd from the understairs cupboard - so not exactly lifting heavy weights? - aggravating beyond belief.

At last?

Today's lyric:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"We should grey together
Not that pigeon-chested Trafalgar grey
The grey that greets you on that first October day
The grey of Russian front, whilst wolves bay
And the skeleton of life, that love decays."

The Beautiful South: "Have fun"
From the album: "Blue is the colour"

Some lovely ballds in here

We may be getting to see a glimmer of summer?

Whatever you're doing - well, maybe not everything you may be doing (you may get arrested?) - if you see this big, hot, orange ball in the sky, go outside and introduce yourself to it.

Because we really do look a little bit better when we're not pasty-faced peeps.

Enjoy your weekends, y'all.

Pop

Today's lyric:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"So the world is spinning faster
Are you dizzy when you're stoned?
Let the music be your master
Will you heed the master's call?"

Led Zeppelin: "Houses of the Holy"
From the album: "Houses of the Holy"

Beaty

One of the Cooper's front tyres has develope a minute 'bulge' - imperceptible, even when marked out with chalk - so full marks to the garage for spotting it.

Or - being uber-cynical - maybe they bumped the kerb to get a tyre fitting out of me?

Nah - they're good people, all.

Regular

Today's lyric:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"We are the children of the new world.
If you're quiet you can watch if you like?
They say the future's beginning tonight.
Whole empires will crumble.
Civilisations will fall.
Lie on the bed, hear the sound of it all.
No anger, no guilt and no sorrow:
It sounds unlikely, I know,
but tomorrow you will wake up to find that your whole life has changed.
Although nothing looks different a revolution took place."

Pulp: "The day after the revolution"
From the album: "This is hardcore"

Intermittently crook

Today's lyric:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"Why stay in college? Why go to night school?
Gonna be different this time
Can't write a letter, can't send a postcard,
I can't write nothing at all
This ain't no party, this ain't no disco,
this ain't no fooling around
I'd like to kiss you, I'd love you hold you
I ain't got no time for that now."

Talking Heads: "Life during wartime"
From the album: "Once in a lifetime"

Not one bad track on it

The Cooper has - for the first time in its lifetime of 3 1/4 years - had to visit the garage today for an intermittent noise from the brakes to be investigated.

I can picture a grease-monkey tooling around town all day 'listening' for a noise while having the fun of driving it?

Stalked. Signed. Done.

Today's lyric:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"If you really like it you can have the rights
It could make a million for you overnight
If you must return it you can send it here
But I need a break and I want to be a paperback writer."

The Beatles: "Paperback writer"
From the album: "1"

All the breast

Exiting the railway station last night and threading my way through the serried ranks of taxis and waiting cars, I spotted a film crew with a bloke talking to a young couple in a Range Rover.

It was only as he pulled his torso out of the cabin that I realised it was one Gordon Ramsay.

Now it just so happened that I had in my rucksack his borrowed-from-a-colleague autocryography, so I thought I'd chance my arm.

"Would you autograph your book for me, Gordon?"

"Yeah, just give me two minutes to finish filming."

But while I borrowed a biro from one of the crew, another local nipped in for a conflab about a mutual acquaintance "off the record."

"Sorry mate, but everything's on the record" said Gordon.

Eventually he leaned into the bloke and 'whispered' "Tell the little fcuker from me that the next time I fcuking see him I'll fcuking fcuk the fcuker sideways."

Yep, that's Gordon, I thought.

So he inscribed the book "To Croa*. Love. Gordon."

Enjoy your weekends, y'all.

Melanie

Today's lyric:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"Into the light out of the dark, where only love can heal your heart
And if you want I'll make a start
If you want I'll make a start

This place I say - half hour away. Is that so far to go? - so near
And further on we'll find the time
And lose the discontent we feel
That we feel."

Only words

Today's lyric:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"So here I go to see the world
With my eyes and with my soul
And too much love, so little hate
The devil inside won't control my fate."

From the album: "albumname"

Maybe it's a big horse?

Today's lyric:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"Stand by my accusations, I'll come clean - I don't need no vice
I know you want to keep me waitin', I think it's funny that you might
Love is hard to leave and it's hard to never have
Can you please crawl out of your window - I will give you all I have
Box up our records and a head full of ideas
And a handful of escape routes - they're going to burn you."

The Charlatans: "One to another"
From the album: "Melting Pot"

No way out

Today's lyric:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"High on the roof, thin the blood,
Another one climbs on the waves tonight,
Comin' in, you're home."

R.E.M.: "Orange crush"
From the album: "In time"

All the best

An 11 and 3/4 hour hitch thwarted Number One Son's plans to move out on Saturday.

Honestly, I wouldn't pee on an estate agent if they were ablaze.

Every one I've ever dealt with - and over the years, there have been many - have been at best absolutely incompetent and at worst, near-crooked.

This isn't even my move and I've had to send two lots of the same papers to them and find two different contacts for them to speak to because "they couldn't get through to the first one" (despite the fact it was a direct line?).

Charlatans, all.

On leaving

Today's lyric:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"Surfing on an oilspill,
Surfing on a perfect wave,
Porn upon the airwaves,
Rituals of the mating game."

Echobelly: "Dark Therapy"
From the album: "I can't imagine the world without me"

slow burner

Number One Son leaves home tomorrow, for possibly the last time?

The house he's been angling to rent with three mates has finally been signed off and we'll be helping to load the van and packing him off, no doubt with Mrs.D. waving him away with a tear-stained hanky.

It's not that it's the first time - there have been several 'escape attempts' before now - but this time it feels like forever?

But it's what we've brought them both up to be - quietly confident about their independence, so we've only ourselves to blame.

Anyone wanna buy a family home?

Enjoy your weekends, y'all...

Quelle surprise

Today's lyric:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"And I'm up on Inspiration Drive
If you could see what I've seen
Patchwork woman sunshine suits you fine
Perfect in an easy way
The world behind the worlds
I'm singing
"La-la-la-la-la-la"

Gary Jules: "Patchwork G"
From the album: "Trading snakeoil for wolftickets"

There's some grand stuff on it!

After what seems like weeks of unpublicity, it seems they've found it necessary to drag Mr Murat out of 'hiding' again?

Surely if there was some fire in among that smoke, it would have manifested by now?

Or are they just hoping to wear the bu99er down with their random visits, waiting for him to say "Oh, Ok, I'm bored with this now, slap on the cuffs and let's do it."

Lowering

Today's lyric:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"Close your legs, open your mind
Leave those compliments well behind
Dig a little deeper into yourself
And you may find..

Come over here just sit right down
Needn't comb your hair, needn't pout or frown
I hear you've turned our young men
Into dribbling clowns."

The Beautiful South: "36D"
From the album: "Carry on up the charts"

Clean as.

Today's lyric:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"Leaves are falling all around
It's time I was on my way.
Thanks to you I'm much obliged, for such a pleasant stay.
But now it's time for me to go
The autumn moon lights my way.
For now I smell the rain and with it pain
And it's headed my way.
Ah sometimes I grow so tired
But I know I've got one thing I got to do."

Led Zeppelin: "Ramble on"
From the album: "LZ II"

In between mowing the grass-coated mud which passes for our lawn and flushing out faulty guttering, we washed and waxed the Cooper.

Whereupon Mrs.D. took it up to the supermarket, for to purchase some bloody well-earned liquid vittles.

Emerging from a car so sparkling that you needed to wear sunglasses inside it, a touting car-wash 'person' asked if she would like her car cleaned?

Now I've been on the receiving end of those withering glares. And I know she can atrophy a whole body like what Lot's wife ended up.

I'm surprised he could walk away afterwards..

Long John Ribaldry

Today's lyric:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"I can't seem to face up to the facts
I'm tense and nervous and I can't relax
I can't sleep 'cause my bed's on fire
Don't touch me I'm a real live wire."

Talking Heads: "Psycho Killer"
From the album: "Once in a lifetime"

a propos

* draws deep breath *
Yesterday, my somewhat staid, stolid and, yes, unworldly colleague John announced to the office, in his usual Stentorian bellow, that as his 30th wedding anniversary was looming, he'd been thinking about giving his wife a pearl necklace?

He sat, buffetted by gales of laughter, blissfully ignorant of the double-entendre'd meaning of this suggestion, while we all did a rofl with tears streaming from our collective eyes. Even Mrs.D. near bust a rib when I related the story last night.

And this morning, before the hordes re-convened for another day in t'City, I've had to explain the connotations and, indeed, 'repercussions' of a t1t-wank.

Felt like being back in Biology class..

What great news about the release of Alan Johnston, eh. Made my day.

The sun does shine

Today's lyric:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"Why can't a woman be just what she seems?
Must she be tarnished by men who can only be men in their dreams?
When beauty meets ignorance they shout in the street
Repeating their offer to each girl they meet
The respect that she needs, it isn't a gift,
But it gets hard to lift yourself up when you don't have the strength to begin with
Why can't a woman stand alone?"

Elvis Costello: "Why can't a man stand alone?"
From the album: "All this useless beauty"

Ever a favourite

So we dragged ourselves out of our pit into the howling wind and rain on Sunday morning, for to traverse a 4+ mile cross-country walk for our favourite charity.

A quick group snap before setting off, whereupon the rain immediately stopped and remained thus until we arrived back at the meeting point exactly two hours later.

Maybe there is a god? Anyway, the charity is one hundred and five quid better off (it all goes towards palliative care - 50k GBP is needed each month for the county) and we all felt good about having made the effort.

Btw, thought Bocelli put in a very creditable performance in the Lloyd-Webber medley at the not-very-maudlin-at-all Diana concert yesterday. First time I'd really listened to the guy and was very impressed.
